Munkedal Mansion
Our primary exclusive high-fenced hunting area in Sweden — roughly 130 hectares of broken, hilly ground where you can hunt the red stag you have been picturing for years.
The terrain is genuinely challenging to hunt, and you are supported by our most experienced guides, whose only job is to give you an experience you will talk about for the rest of your life. There are roughly thirty mature trophy animals in the area, several of them gold-medal class — although they are, of course, difficult to get in front of. There is a reason they grew that big: they are cautious, and they know the ground.
Our clients have taken everything from young spike stags to a 21-pointer, many of them in the medal classes — and larger stags still live in the area. The hunt is kept exclusive for small groups of up to six hunters, with excellent accommodation at the historic manor house in Munkedal. This ground can only be hunted through us, and because our guides know every ridge and wallow, you are all but guaranteed several shooting opportunities.
At the manor you eat exceptionally well, with game on the menu whenever you want it — we agree the menu with the head chef before you arrive. During the hunt, lunch is served out in the hunting area.
You do not need to be physically fit to hunt here. We drive you out to the stands by ATV so the animals are disturbed as little as possible, which also makes the hunt suitable for hunters of any physical ability. We handle every animal taken, and we can arrange taxidermy or deliver your trophies for you.
We are modest enough to say that you will struggle to find better high-fence hunting anywhere — certainly not on our very reasonable terms. The programme can be tailored exactly as you wish. We cannot promise you a giant stag, only that we will do absolutely everything in our power to put you in front of one.
Transfers from Gothenburg or Oslo airport are arranged on request, and single rooms are available for everyone who wants one. Many hunters bring a partner, which works perfectly well: they can walk with one of our guides during the hunt, combine the trip with shopping at the nearby retail centre, or simply relax at the manor. It is entirely their choice.

Every journey is tailored
We do not sell packages. We begin with a conversation — sometimes an hour long — about what you actually want from the week. The species matters, of course. But so does whether you want to walk twelve kilometres a day or sit comfortably over a managed feeding ground; whether you are travelling alone, with a hunting partner of thirty years, or with a family who would rather be in a spa.
From that conversation we build a written itinerary from the ground up: estate, guide, accommodation, meals, transport, licences, rest days and the experiences around the hunt. Nothing is copied from a brochure. If you want three days of red deer stalking in Sweden followed by a driven boar hunt in Central Europe and two days in Copenhagen, that is a single Venator itinerary — not three bookings.
Wild Boar

Roe deer, fox, raccoon dog and other predators are all on the licence on our Polish driven hunts, and roe bucks can be stalked separately in spring and summer.

Why hunt in Scandinavia?
There are places where hunting is a transaction. Scandinavia is not one of them. Here, the forest sets the terms — and a hunting trip in Sweden becomes something closer to a pilgrimage than a purchase.
Sweden alone holds close to seventy per cent forest cover: an unbroken mosaic of spruce, Scots pine, birch and glacial lakes stretching from the oak-rich estates of Skåne to the boreal wilderness of Norrland. Wildlife density here is among the highest in Europe, and it is managed rather than exploited. Wild boar, red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and mouflon share landscapes that have been hunted continuously — and carefully — for a thousand years.
What makes Scandinavian hunting distinct is the discipline behind it. Local hunters pass mandatory marksmanship tests. Harvest quotas are set from documented population counts. Estates keep records across generations, and a gamekeeper will refuse a shot on a young stag without hesitation, no matter who is holding the rifle. That restraint is precisely why the trophies here remain exceptional and why an ethical European hunting experience still means something.
Then there is the light. In September the rut begins, and at four in the morning the valleys fill with fog while stags roar across the ridgelines. In November, driven hunts move through frost-silver birch with the dogs working ahead. In January the snow arrives and the forest turns monochrome, tracks written across it like text. Few landscapes on earth reward patience so visibly.
Safety and infrastructure complete the picture. Scandinavia is politically stable, famously low in crime, English-speaking to a near-universal standard, and equipped with world-class hospitals, roads and airports. You can hunt at dawn in a remote forest concession and be at a Michelin-recommended table in Stockholm the same evening. For hunters travelling from the United States and Canada, that combination of wilderness and civility is genuinely rare.
And finally, tradition. The hunt does not end at the shot. It ends with the game laid out in the last light, horns sounded for the animal, the fire lit and the meal shared. Guests tell us afterwards that this is the part they remember longest — not the measurement of the antlers, but the ceremony around them.

We hold some of the finest driven hunting ground in Europe — above all in Poland — and we run hunts in North Africa.
Poland — three-day driven hunts
World-class three-day driven hunts where every species is on the licence: wild boar, red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and predators. The results from our areas are extreme, and no other outfitter can show comparable figures over time.
Groups are 23 hunters plus our own guide. Expect large parades — usually more than 100 animals over three days. Our record, set in 2024, stands at 209 animals after three days of hunting.

Morocco — a week after Barbary boar
A week-long adventure hunt for Barbary wild boar combined with sightseeing, where local guides show you this historic country from the inside. Firearms are issued to you on arrival, so you travel as an ordinary tourist with no gun paperwork.
We hunt with shotguns and slugs — an experience in itself, and one we recommend strongly. Groups here are smaller: a maximum of 11 hunters plus our guide.

Staying at the Munkedal manor house
The hunt and the house are one package. Your group of up to six stays at the historic manor in Munkedal for the duration of the hunt — no other guests, no fixed programme.
Where you sleep is not a detail. It is half the memory.
Munkedals Herrgård is an old Swedish manor set in its own grounds a short drive from the hunting area. Rooms are individually furnished, and every hunter gets a single room if that is what you want. Boots dry overnight, rifles are stored securely, and there is always a quiet corner with a leather chair and a lamp to go through the day.
The kitchen is the other half of the experience. The food is genuinely top class, with game on the menu whenever you want it — we agree the menu with the head chef before you arrive. During the hunt, lunch is brought out to you in the hunting area.
Many hunters bring their partner, and that works well here. They can join a guide in the field, spend the day at a nearby shopping centre, or simply stay at the manor — it is entirely up to each guest. We arrange transfers from Gothenburg or Oslo airport if you need them, and can put your group up in a city hotel the night before or after the hunt.

Expect slow-braised wild boar with juniper and root vegetables, loin of red deer with lingonberry and chanterelle, cured game, rye bread, dill and berries. During the hunt, lunch is brought out to you in the hunting area rather than eaten back at the house.
Wine or aquavit with dinner, a dram by the fire afterwards and the day gone through properly — that is the shape of the evening. Dietary requirements are handled quietly; just tell us in advance.

01Do I need a hunting licence to hunt in Sweden as a foreign visitor?
Visiting hunters generally need a valid hunting licence from their home country and, depending on the hunt, a Swedish hunting permit and paid game conservation fee. We verify the exact requirements for your nationality and the specific estate, prepare the paperwork in advance and confirm everything in writing before you travel. You never have to navigate Scandinavian bureaucracy on your own.
02Can I bring my own rifle to Scandinavia?
Yes. Hunters travelling from the United States, Canada and most European countries can import hunting rifles temporarily with the correct import permit and airline paperwork. We guide you through the application, the European Firearms Pass where relevant, and the customs procedure at arrival. If you prefer to travel light, we arrange a high-quality loaner rifle with time on the range before the hunt.
03What is the best time of year for red deer hunting in Sweden?
The classic red deer season runs from late summer into winter, with the rut in September and October offering the most dramatic experience — roaring stags in misty forest at first light. Driven hunts for wild boar and fallow deer are strongest from October through January. We build the calendar around the experience you want, not the other way around.
04How many hunting days should I plan for?
Most international guests travel for five to eight days: two travel days, three to five hunting days and one or two days for food, culture, fishing or family activities. Shorter and longer programmes are equally possible — a two-week multi-country European hunting itinerary is something we build regularly.
05Can my family or non-hunting partner join?
Absolutely, and many of our guests travel this way. While you are in the field, we arrange spa days, guided nature walks, food and wine experiences, city excursions, boat trips and child-friendly activities. Everyone meets again for dinner at the lodge.
06How does trophy export and taxidermy work?
We coordinate field preparation, a trusted taxidermist and the veterinary and customs documentation required for export to the United States, Canada and the EU. You receive tracking information and a named contact who follows the shipment until it reaches your door.
07What does a luxury hunting vacation in Scandinavia cost?
Because every journey is tailored, price depends on species, hunting days, group size, accommodation level and added experiences. Programmes typically start in the mid four figures per hunter and rise for exclusive estates, private guiding and manor houses booked for your group alone. 08Is hunting in Scandinavia ethical and legally regulated?
Scandinavian hunting is built on strict game management, mandatory marksmanship testing for local hunters, seasonal quotas and a deep cultural respect for the animal. Every estate we work with operates under national wildlife legislation and documented harvest plans. Nothing we arrange sits in a legal grey zone.
09Do the guides speak English?
Yes. All guides on international programmes speak fluent English, and we can provide German or French speaking guides on request. Your itinerary, safety briefing and hunting rules are delivered in English in writing before arrival.
10How far in advance should I book?
For prime rut dates and the most exclusive estates, nine to twelve months ahead is sensible. We can occasionally place a small group at shorter notice through our estate network, so it is always worth asking.
